Salve, ho appena installato Boinc su un pc con Debian.
Per iniziare a usarlo ho inserito un progetto che mi sembrava interessante e mi sono registrata, ma mi dice "nessun lavoro disponibile da elaborare". Ho provato allora a iscrivermi a un altro progetto, ma anche questo secondo progetto non ha nessun lavoro da elaborare.
Inoltre, se clicco su "home page del progetto", mi si apre una finestra del browser con indirizzo "http://localhost/" (e questo vale per entrambi i progetti.
Questo mi fa pensare che ho perso un passaggio nella configurazione, infatti il file /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg è vuoto e il file /etc/boinc-client/remote_hosts.cfg contiene solo righe commentate. Mi viene anche il dubbio che i permessi di gui_rpc_auth.cfg (640) siano sbagliati.
Secondo voi dove sbaglio? Grazie in anticipo a chi avrà il tempo di aiutarmi a capire

scusa, ma se non dici a quale progetto stai provando a collegarti, credo sia molto difficile riuscire a darti una risposta.

tieni presente che ci sono molti progetti che o sono chiusi da tempo, o che non generano nuove unità di lavoro da mesi, o forse ci sono problemi temporanei (tipo server offline per problime legati a backup) o anche altre cause

I permessi del gui_rpc_auth.cfg vanno bene e puo' anche restare vuoto se non ti interessa metterci una password.
Il remote_hosts.cfg serve solo se ti ci vuoi connettere da un altro pc.

Inoltre, se clicco su "home page del progetto", mi si apre una finestra del browser con indirizzo "http://localhost/" (e questo vale per entrambi i progetti.

Non mi e' mai capitato. Puoi postare i log di boinc? Li trovi in "Registro eventi" oppure nel stdoutdae.txt.

Immagino che come log degli eventi tu intenda questo.
Da qui si vedono anche quali sono i due progetti che ho usato per questa prova, se pensate che dipenda dai progetti proverò a sceglierne altri, ma la cosa di aprire finestre del browser locali mi dà da pensare

Il mio demone non si avvia con /etc/init.d/boinc ma con /etc/init.d/boinc-client, suppongo che comunque non ci sia una differenza sostanziale.
Lo stato comunque è questo:

Mi sembra ok pero' enigma@home al momento pare che ha lavoro solo per applicazioni Windows e SAT@home e' fermo. Prova altri progetti.

Probabilmente allora è quello, l'ho scaricata da repository (sì, anche il mio kernel in effetti è un po' datato).

Ho provato con dei progetti diversi e va tutto bene, per esempio SETI@home scarica le WU e le elabora normalmente.
Rimane la stranezza che apre in automatico tutte le pagine dei progetti su http://localhost/ ma quello sinceramente è un problema davvero minore, se voglio andare sulle pagine dei progetti ci arrivo tranquillamente da sola.
Ringrazio tutti quelli che mi hanno aiutata.

Su wheezy puoi aggiornare alla 7.4.23 dai backports.

Considererei anche un passaggio ad un os a 64 bit se ti e' possibile. Ormai le applicazioni a 32 bit su linux le usano in pochissimi, alcuni progetti neanche le distribuiscono piu'.

OT:
un kernel patchato non è preistorico, la release iniziale forse lo è, ma poi vengono applicate ulteriori patch per migliorare il supporto, la sicurezza etc
Io personalmente su gentoo utilizzo un vanilla con un ebuild (che ho scritto personalmente) per le patch grsecurity di alpine linux.
da qui nascono appunto i kernel longterm

più che altro basta che ci sia il supporto alle librerie 32 bit (sistemi multilib)

si ma se la sua cpu è 64bit può usare anche software a 32bit, non viceversa :)

@oscarandrea , in riferimento ad un eventuale passaggio ad un sistema a 64 bit , se il sistema operativo è multilib c'è la possibilità che sporadicamente riceva WUs a 32 bit
